Designer Suits
These are the elements of modern designer suits:
A coat – may be tweed, pinstriped or plain
A waistcoat/vest – sometimes seen with modern suits, for special or casual occassions
A pair of trousers – once commonly pleated, but flatfronts are strong nowadays
The fabric and lining used accounts for much of the difference between designer suits coming from various fashion houses. Good suit materials are lightweight wool or high-end cotton; linen is wearable when steam-pressed or in high humidity. The weaving also counts; twill and sateen with their subtle sheens bring out a classy textureto suits. Pinstripes need not result in suit disaster, using subdued shades and crosshatched patterns.
For the urban professional whose image plays a large part on the job, a designer suit can definitely boost career points. Having a whole rack of designer suits is not really the goal - a set or two with combination-friendly pieces will create the right look, coupled with just a few accessories.
Designer suits are not just for formal wear; white ensembles are great for sporty occasions or casual summer. Dressing down with white suits is done with jeans, dress shirts and dark loafers, perfect for evenings.
To create multiple looks with one or two designer suits, the safest way is to explore colors and styles in dress shirts and neckties. Focus on collar shape and cuts when adjusting suit designs to particular face types. Wide collars balance lean faces, and narrow collar cuts sharpen wider faces.
When pulling together the current suit trend, go for narrower coats; in any case the shoulders should never be too bulky. This fit works best with straighter trouser cuts, veering away from ultra-slim pant profiles. Sharper cuts create a more distinct torso, but color-wise little else is happening outside of the standard tones.
Designer suits come in two or three buttons, extending up to six for vest-like designs. Among the more famous designers are Baroni, Tommy Hilfinger, Hilton, Kenneth Cole, Belvest, Coppley, Giorgio Valentini, Jack Victor, Dockers, Keithmoor and more.
